History
Sol played its first season in 2004 as part of the Men's Premier Soccer
League, finishing with a record of 9-7. In 2005, Sol moved to the National
Premier Soccer League. Sol quickly became a force in the league and many
accomplishments. These included winning the NPSL Western Championship and
finishing the season with an 11-5-2 record in league play.
Sol ended the season second only to the Midwestern Division Champions, the
Detroit Arsenal, who took the NPSL title game 1-0 after two overtime
periods. Sol also represented the NPSL in the 2005 USASA National Cup,
losing narrowly in the semi-final match. Sol also qualifed for the 2005 US
Open Cup, which included several MLS teams in the field.
The NPSL
The NPSL formed in 2005 to provide amateur men with a highly competitive
league. The league has quickly expanded to a national entity, going from 13
teams in 2005 to 24 teams in three divisions for the 2006 season. Each
team plays a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 20 regular season games. The
NPSL is sanctioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) as
an affiliate fo teh United States Soccer Federation (USSF), the ruling body
for soccer in the USA, and FIFA, the ruling body for world soccer.
The WPSL
ISol adds a women's team for the 2006 season. The women will play in the
Women's Premier Soccer League, an independent national league whose main
focus is the development of highly competitive amateur women's soccer. With
the fall of the WUSA, the WPSL is the top women's soccer league in the
country and plays host to many of the US Women's National Team players.
Since its creation in 1998, the WPSL has spread across the USA and expects
nearly 30 teams in four divisions for the 2006 season. Like the NPSL, the
WPSL is sanctioned by USASA, USSF and FIFA. Teams will play 12-15 games
during the season.
The PASL
The Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL) enters its 7th year of operation in
2006. Sol men joined this league for the first time for the 2005/2006
season. The PASL offers amateur players the chance to compete at the highest
level and has become the largest indoor/arena soccer league in the country.
The PASL expects over 50 teams in 6 regions across the USA and Canada for
the 2005/2006 season. Teams compete in regional action that feeds to a
national title game. The winter title game from the 2004/2005 season was
nationally televised on GOL TV. The PASL is also a member of the USSF and
USASA.
