New women's pro soccer league to launch in 2008

Salzmann Signed for Second Year as
Sol Women’s Head Coach

February 15, 2007  Sonoma County Futbol Club President Dave Kronberg announced that Emiria Salzmann has agreed to serve as the Sol women’s team head coach for the 2007 season.  Salzmann led the Sol women to an amazing 9-4-1 record in the 2006 inaugural year of the team, defeating all but one of the teams in the West Conference of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) at least once.

“Emiria is a superb soccer coach and tactician,” said Kronberg.  “But even more, she created a special environment, blending players from various backgrounds into a cohesive and effective whole. And they had a great time doing it.”

“It is an honor to be back coaching the Sol Women for a second season,” said Salzmann. “It was unbelievable how well our team performed in its first year and the level and commitment from the players was truly remarkable.  My assistant coach, Brian Halloran, and I are looking forward to returning our best players from last year and adding some exciting new talent from top college programs in California as well as top youth players in the Sonoma County area.”

“Our goal, first and foremost, is to create a team atmosphere that is healthy, positive, motivating, and competitive.  Our philosophy is “If you build it, they will come.”  With the early success of the Sol, we feel that we are in a great position to not only continue our momentum from last season but also, and perhaps most importantly, we are in a great position to attract top players who are excited by our team atmosphere and to our culture.  This, in turn, will help the Sol continue to grow into a national soccer powerhouse.”

The WPSL season starts in May. The team will play 7 home games in Santa Rosa, but the schedule of games is not yet finalized. Tryouts the women’s team are scheduled with an invitational tryout scheduled February 24th and an open tryout scheduled for March 10th.  All interested players should immediately contact Coach Salzmann at emiria@yahoo.com or 707-326-3075.
