Sol and Sonoma State Play to 2-2 Tie
March 15, 2005 Sonoma County Sol and the Sonoma
State Men's Soccer Team played to a 2-2 tie tonight at Lucchesi Park in
Petaluma before a crowd of approximately 200. Sonoma State opened the
scoring early with a shot from about the 18 yard line directly in front of
the goal within the first five minutes of play. Sol answered shortly before
the half with a goal by forward Brandon Boone who with his back to the
goal, turned and shot waist high into the left side netting.
Sol went ahead when midfielder Adrian
Zavala shot low and hard at the Sonoma State goalie who mishandled the ball
allowing a goal. Sonoma State tied it up with a penalty kick taken by Mike
Kelly after a ball was handled by a Sol defender in the penalty area.
Sol next plays at the Sonoma State
tournament next Sunday, March 20th. Sol will play Notre Dame de Namur at
10:30 and Cal State Stanislaus at 1:30.
