New for 2005
With our formative year under our belt, Sol is looking to make several
exciting changes that will increase the quality of the program while making
our games more accessible and pleasant to watch for our fans. Some of the
major changes:
-
Dave Shaffer selected head coach for 2005.
Long time Montgomery High and Santa Rosa United Coach Dave Shaffer has been
selected as the Coach for Sol for the 2005 season. One of the most
successful youth and high school coaches in Sonoma County history, Dave
knows how to attract and motivate great players and develop a winning
program. Montgomery has a long history of North Bay League and North Coast
Section success. Dave has accumulated many high school coaching honors
including winning Redwood Empire Coach of the Year three times. In
addition, Dave coached 6 time State Cup Champion Santa Rosa United Heat and
current State Cup Champion Santa Rosa United Magic. Magic also was Super Y
League National Champions and winner of the 2001 Kellogg Cup National
Champion-ship. Dave was also 1995 co-coach of the USISL North Bay Breakers
(men’s adult team).
-
New Venue and Night Games-Ernie Nevers Field
at Santa Rosa High School. In order to make the
game more accessible for our fans, all home games will be played on the
beautiful new 2500 seat Ernie Nevers Field recently constructed at Santa
Rosa High School. This facility is close to downtown Santa Rosa, and offers
a lit field that will allow Sol to have a number of our games at
night…adding to the atmosphere of excitement and providing quality evening
entertainment for the entire soccer community. Also, there is improved
concession potential at the new location in order to support our business
partners and continue the program.
-
Comcast Cable Broadcasts of Home Games.
Comcast has agreed to broadcast several Sol home games this year. This will
provide greater exposure to Sol in the community and will increase the reach
and impact of on field advertising for Sol sponsors.
-
Exciting New League.
This year, Sol will play in the in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL),
the successor to the 2004 Men’s Premier Soccer League. The NPSL is a league
made up of Western and Midwestern teams. Sol will be playing in the Western
Conference made up of approximately 8 teams throughout California, Nevada
and New Mexico,.
-
